What are your thoughts on angry black woman?

Does it seem to be synonymous with being strong and independent?

How do angry black woman contribute to the demise of “black love”?

Are black women actually against interracial relationships?

_______________________

& please give us an hour of your time.

So for the past year Stacey and I have been putting together a documentary. The premise of the film is angry black women. As we started to explore this stereotype there really was no way to escape stereotypes of angry black men, the nice guy, as well as interracial dating and its possible effects on black love. Why are black women perceived as being angry? And more importantly what part of this anger can be a direct response to black men and if so why? Well with those questions in mind we set out to interview several young people and get their answers as well as some personal stories and opinions on some other topics that arose. I really hope that you take the time to view it. I’m incredibly proud of the finished product. Neither of us are trained in the ways of filming a movie or making a documentary and I think we exceeded a lot of our own expectations on what this film was going to look like. Aside from the poor quality in sound, it really is a good watch. Enjoy it!

So here is the link to the first part of our documentary: WEST FROM HERE

And a shout out to all the people who contributed to this film by giving us the time to interview them!

(Click for article)

Why There Aren't More Interracial Couples? (Click for article):
dachesterfrench:

Interesting excerpt from a study recently done at Columbia (which obviously must build in some pretty significant biases).

A few key points:

“if we randomly assigned people in the U.S. to their marriage partners, we would expect 44% of marriages to be between two people of different races. According to the 2000 Census, however, only 4% of marriages fit that description”

“a participant from a low-tolerance state such as South Carolina (where 28% of those surveyed feel that interracial marriage should be banned) has same-race preferences that are 16% points higher than participant from a state such as New York (where 22% feel that interracial marriage should be banned).”

Those #’s, if correct, are absolutely shocking. I can’t really imagine that 22% of New Yorkers feel that interracial marriage should be banned. Can anyone confirm or dispute that that’s based upon convincing research?

“Marriage rates of black women in the U.S. are the lowest in the country; in 2007 only 33% of black women were married.”

-D.A.

http://clutchmagonline.com/lifeculture/feature/the-black-box/
Thoughts?

Thoughts? I agree with the article. But I feel like we confine ourselves. No one is forcing us to be black first and then women second for example. No one is forcing us to feel as if we aren’t free. We put a lot of this pressure on ourselves. My question is how are we supposed to live in a world where racism doesn’t matter when we continue to choose and build our identities based around the very concept of race? We are afraid to blast our rock music in our cars for fear of people questioning whether or not we really are black, but how are people supposed to know that there is MORE to being a skin color than just the type of music we listen to if none of us break the mold and express our individualities rather than play into this stock character the media has created for us? If we continue to feel like we MUST uphold the race at all times we forget to be who we are rather than just spokespeople for the black community. It’s a difficult mold to break because any sense of individuality that does not fit into the labels of what being “black” is automatically is deemed as “going against” the race. Thanks for the article, it was a great read. What are YOUR thoughts?

In her response to the leak of a private off the record conversation with a friend on Essence Magazine (the first article) she explains that a lot of black magazines send this message that it is entirely up to a woman to keep a man happy and therefore keep a good relationship. I agree with her comments. Black women do not carry, and nor should we, the burden of keeping a relationship going alone. What are your thoughts?
